Both these names were related to a franchise that didn't even happen after their first film. Their only films were The Mummy (2017, Dark Universe) and Devil (2010, The Night Chronicles). Both of them were supposed to be big franchises, they even had their own logos. Sadly, as time went on, they confirmed that the franchises would never happen, and would instead move to different projects. If the other projects made by these studios would be released, I would watch all of them.

Remember it? Still waiting for my Frankenstein vs. Wolf Man in Dark Universe. And The Night Chronicles promised to give Shyamalan a new storytelling canvas. You know, I really hope someone revives these ideas someday. Nothing beats the classics!

Dark Universe went dark, Night Chronicles got daybreak, and we just got regular franchise fatigue. Plot twist: they were cancelled because they were too good for this world. Who needs Marvel and Star Wars when you could've had Tom Cruise running from bandaged extras and elevator-based horror? 😆

Honestly its kind of sad seeing big dreams like the Dark Universe not take off. Yeah, it's show business, but c'mon, there were some cool ideas floating around. And Devil was better than people give credit for, had a Twilight Zone vibe. Shame when things don't pan out, but that's life in La La Land, I guess.

Typical Hollywood, dropping monster ballads for the next shiny project. They banked too hard on Depp and co. pulling the Dark Universe together. As for Night Chronicles, Shyamalan has his ups and downs, but Devil was just a bad elevator pitch (pun intended). Don't get me started on the sequels we never got, woulda made more sense to focus on smth like the MCU's playbook instead of betting the farm on a weak start.

lol yeah, Dark Universe was so hyped especially after that Vanity Fair photo shoot with all the stars that were supposedly going to be part of it. Imagine the budget getting all those A-listers and then... poof. But hey, we got an Invisible Man reboot that slapped without the Dark Universe label, so silver lining, amirite?

As for the games...Virtual Dreams, a franchise and a discontinued label of some company, only made Alone in the Dark. Then Alone in the Dark became a franchise of their own.

bruh, Alone in the Dark was my jam. it totally blew my mind back in the day! the sequels never lived up to the first one for me, ngl. had no idea it was supposed to be a whole franchise tho... damn, what a missed opportunity 😢 now I gotta dig up my old copy for some feels

Just to clarify a bit, Alone in the Dark was actually published by Infogrames, not Virtual Dreams. The franchise did see several sequels, though. They kinda lost the plot after the first few games, especially with the 2008 reboot. The original 1992 game is considered a pioneer for survival horror, way before Resident Evil made it mainstream. It's a shame the series didn't hold up. Could have been a contender.

I remember as a kid watching the old black and white monster movies. Was really rooting for Dark Universe to be a 21st-century revival. The Mummy kinda missed that mark but if they had dialed it back a bit, who knows? And Devil! What a twist, classic Shyamalan. Too bad The Night Chronicles didn't go anywhere, the concept was solid!

They had logos and everything! Weren't there like photoshoots with the cast already? Dark Universe's logo was sorta iconic for a minute there. A testament to how branding can't save a project if the first outing doesn't kill at the box office.

Devil was just the start, and The Night Chronicles promised so much! M. Night Shyamalan producing a whole series of supernatural thrillers??? Yes, please!!! Bummed nothing else came out, that elevator premise was claustrophobically cool! What else they had in store?

Dark Universe had so much potential, like a modern-day Universal Monsters! The Mummy was a bit of a letdown for me, but man, the hype was real. Imagine Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's Monster and Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man... Coulda been huge, smh.
