Hey y’all, just moved here from the East Coast and I’ve been on the hunt for the best clam chowder in San Francisco. I’ve tried a few spots on Fisherman's Wharf but nothing's really wowed me yet. Any local secrets you’re willing to spill??

I'm going to shell out my top secret for you - Anchor Oyster Bar in Castro. Not only do they have freakin' amazing seafood in general, but their clam chowder is just clamtastic. Rich, creamy, and no holding back on the clams or the flavor.

I've scoured the city for the best chowder and let me tell you, most places don't know a clam from a ham. However, Hog Island Oyster Co. at the Ferry Building delivers a clam chowder that's intricate and flavorful - not that floury goop they serve at the Wharf. It’s all about the quality of ingredients, and these guys get it right.

Hey there. Seafood aficionado here. To be honest, finding 'the best' clam chowder can be quite subjective, since it comes down to personal preference on the thickness, the amount of clams, and so on. Having said that, Barbara's Fishtrap over at Half Moon Bay is worth the drive. It's not technically 'in the city' but their clam chowder is as close to perfection as you'll get on the West Coast. Plus, they use fresh sourdough for the bread bowls!

Everywhere on the Wharf is pretty much a tourist trap. Overrated and overpriced. You want the real deal? You have to go to the small spots where locals actually eat. Best I've had lately was at a dive called Chowders on Pier 39. I know, I know, Pier 39 sounds touristy, but hear me out, the bread bowl there is killer. Just avoid weekends if you can, the lines get crazy.

Okay, you have to check out this little hole in the wall place called The Steamy Pot on Green Street. It's not in the typical tourist spots so it might be exactly what you're looking for. Their clam chowder has this incredible balance of flavours, and they make it with fresh local clams. Don’t miss out, it’s a hidden gem!
