Coding Bootcamp vs. Self Learning

Been thinkin bout a coding bootcamp. But is it worth the $$? Can't I learn the same thing online for less? JavaScript ain't rocket science, right?

Look, here's what really matters: are you motivated to learn on your own, or do you need a stricter setting to work at your best? Both have their pros and cons. If you have discipline and can manage well without a structured setup, by all means, start with inexpensive or free resources. Just remember, coding doesn't just end with learning a language; there's a whole set of practices and tools you need to familiarize with, like debuggers, Git, unit testing, and so on. Sometimes these are better taught in a structured bootcamp. Choose wisely and remember, the important thing again is not to quit but keep learning and improving.

Take it one step at a time. Don't rush, it's not a race. Pick up a book or check out something like Khan Academy or Codecademy. If you get stuck and frustrated then maybe yes, consider a bootcamp.

Did a 12-week bootcamp last year, one of the best decisions of my life. Yea, it cost quite a bit, but I was getting nowhere self-studying. The bootcamp gave structure, deadlines, and an environment where everybody is learning together. Now, I work for a startup, decent pay, good work life balance. My advice, find a reputable bootcamp and just go for it.

JavaScriptJedi here.

Just to share, I learned coding by myself, many sleepless nights, lots of black coffee, and yes brother, it ain't rocket science, it's JavaScript. Online resources are plenty, FreeCodeCamp, Codecademy, heck just Google 'learn JavaScript’ and there you go, a sea of info.

But that process took TIME, a helluva lot.

Bootcamps? Yea they cost a pretty penny, but remember, you're not just paying to learn to code. You're paying for the structure, the teachers who guide you, Q&A sessions in real time, collaborative projects, even job placement in some cases.

In the end, you gotta ask yourself. Can you keep yourself on track alone OR do you need a firm hand guiding you through?

Good luck in whatever path you choose, may the code always be with you.

Meh, who knows, mate? I'm just dipping my toes into jQuery myself, struggle is real lol But yea, I've heard both camps, bootcamp or self-learn. Both seem to work depending who you ask. 🤷‍♂️
