Third night in a row, I wake up but can't move. You know the drill, sleep paralysis they call it. But this felt off, like something's in the room watching me. And this scent, sort of like old, wet dirt, it fills the room whenever it happens. As soon as I can move again, it's gone. Does anyone else smell stuff during an episode? Or is it just me?

I've read a lot on this, and smells can be a sign of presence. Old wet dirt? Sounds like something attached to the house maybe. Look into the history. Could be something from the land or previous occupants. And keep notes of what happens, it can help you find patterns or triggers for these episodes.

Felt that. Saw shadows and used to smell my grandma's perfume during paralysis which is wild cuz she passed years ago. The brain's a trip. Might wanna check the history of your house, just in case there's more to the smell or if you believe in that sorta thing.

That's messed up. Check your CO2 levels asap. Carbon monoxide can cause some pretty wild symptoms including hallucinations and you def don't want to be breathing in toxic air. The sleep paralysis could be a sign of it. Get a detector, better safe than sorry.

Sleep paralysis can involve all senses, auditory and olfactory hallucinations aren't that uncommon. The brain is still partly in REM, which can create some intense sensory experiences that feel real. The smell could be associated with the type of dream or nightmare you had before waking up in that state. Still, if it bothers you or persists, maybe get it checked out by a doc.

So creepy!! I def think it could be something paranormal. Old, wet dirt you say?? Could be a sign of a spirit, especially ones with unfinished business tied to the earth. Your sleep paralysis might be making you more sensitive to the other side. Try to do some EVP recordings next time or, idk, clean the room with some sage perhaps? 🤔 Stay safe and update us!

had something similar happen to me, the smell you're talking about was more metallic tho. lots of people only talk about the visual or feeling stuff with sleep paralysis but our sense of smell is crazy powerful, esp. when dreaming. might just be your brain messing with you, but if it keeps up maybe watch out for any mold or something in your room maybe??? idk just a thought
