The Magic of the Argos Catalogue

Nothing beat flipping through the Argos catalogue as a kid, amirite? Those Saturday mornings, circling toys, and dreaming of what Santa might bring... it was like a brick of endless possibilities. You'd run your fingers along the glossy pages hoping mum might let you put just one more thing on your birthday list. Wish they'd bring it back—for the nostalgia, of course!

Why isn't there an app for that...like a retro Argos app where you can circle stuff? Imagine porting your wishlist straight to digital Santa, haha. Man, I miss those brick-like catalogues, though. Could double as a doorstop!

Circling toys I'd never get was the real-life simulator of disappointment. Good times 🙃

Ahh, the gift guide dreams. My favourite was the bubble lettering that shouted 'NEW' alongside the illustrations. My mum would always hide the catalogue near Christmas so we couldn’t go wild circling. The suspense!

Anyone else try to see how fast you could go through it, marking everything on each page? My sister and I used to challenge each other. Now it's just 'click and add to cart.'

Argos? Pfft. Amazon killed that for me. But I remember having to dog-eye a corner to remember where the Sega Mega Drive games were. Simpler times.

Flipping through those pages, dreaming of the Lego sets and Gameboys, it's what Saturdays were made of, right? Probably spent more time browsing than actually playing with toys.

The best bit was how they'd organize everything into little sections so each toy had its own special place. And let’s not forget the electronics! Those big, clunky TVs and stereos seemed so futuristic at the time. Wish I had kept a few of those old catalogues. I remember even stumbling across a couple years ago in my mum’s attic – still full of circled items!

Totally remember begging mum to take me to Argos just to pick up the catalogue! It felt like winning the lottery if she said yes. Remember the watch section being massive? Always wanted the digital ones!
