Well, here's what I exactly remember.
I used to go to Woolworths every day and asides from the mud cake, what intrigues me the most is the Super Mario Sunshine limited edition lollies.
The packaging had the Super Mario Sunshine logo underneath the Woolworths logo, and underneath the logo was an image of Mario waving.
The lollies were shaped like Super Mushrooms, were soft and chewy like Haribo, and they had a Ramune flavor.
I don't think it was from Japan. I think it was an Australia-exclusive lolly made by a famous lolly manufacturer (I remember it being Allen's).
Unfortunately, I can't find anything about this online. But my friend remembers it that it was launched and discontinued in 2002.

The Mario Sunshine lollies were part of a brief but beautiful era of game-themed candies. They're one of those products where you remember exactly where you were when you had them. Woolies used to be THE spot for exclusive sweets. Now we're just stuck with the regular stuff. One day I hope they realize our palates crave those unique flavors from the past.

hmmm, I remember some Mario-themed candies but not sure if they were these... Memory's a tricky thing, sometimes companies make such a small batch of promo items that they barely register on the radar. Maybe it’s a Mandela effect situation? :P

I spent AGES searching for info on those lollies a few years back! Turns out, they were a one-time partnership for the game launch down under. Sadly, wasn’t successful enough to keep running, which is why we never saw them again. Big shame—I reckon they’d have a cult following if launched today!

While we at Allen's love bringing joy through our sweets, I must clarify that we didn't manufacture the Super Mario Sunshine lollies you're referring to. It's possible they were a limited-time promo from another maker, or may have been exclusive merchandise related to the game's release. Always awesome to hear people reminisce over these nostalgic tidbits though!
