While it's true Bale did portray both characters, they both represent extremes of societal attitudes. Bateman, an embodiment of detached consumerism, and Batman, the self-sacrificing vigilante. Both characters are far from ideal role models. They are merely reflections of living in a superficial world, driven by consumption and injustice.
