My GF's Birthday Cake

So it's my GF's bday and tried my best to bake a cake. Used this old box mix from the pantry, turned out it expired last year! Taste is like dusty rubber! Made her laugh tho so I guess that's a win? lol

HAHA man, your story made my day. Trust me, I totally know how it feels. Baked a salad once! 😂

Gosh, son, reminds me of my first baking flop back in '72. Was a mess but made people have a good laugh. Guess the point is, ya can't learn without a couple of culinary catastrophes. No worries, keep the oven hot and the spirit high!

I swear it's usually better than this - that brand is my go-to! Expiration can really ruin a good mix tho. Shake it off, next time's a charm.

Hey, just a heads-up, food products aren't always safe to eat after their expiry, even if you cook them. Could've gotten sick, mate. Lucky was just rubbery dust taste. Next time, check those dates!

Oh no...dusty rubber doesn't sound too appetizing. Lazo na? In all seriousness though, now you've got a fun story and a funny memory to look back at. You should do a baking class together, could be a fun experience!

Professional baker here. Well, cake mix format doesn't mean you can't be creative! If it's dry, sometimes adding a tiny bit more oil could make the difference. And often, a simple syrup can be a lifesaver for a dry cake. It keeps it moist, adds a bit of sweet and can even add a little flavor if you throw in a splash of vanilla or orange extract! Older mixes can often taste a bit off but if you work with it, you can balance the flavors. All the best for the next one mate!

lol don't beat yourself mate, we've all been there. Check the exp date next time 😜, but more importantly, keep trying! U'll probably nail it in the next attempt.
