I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed apparently. Had a prime ribeye I was savin' for a special dinner. Figured I'd thaw it in the sink for a few hours. Cut to me, next day, findin' it still there, lukewarm and def not safe to eat. There goes my dream steak night. Not cool, past me, not cool at all.

Hey, here's a trick. Next time place your steak in a watertight zip bag with all the air squeezed out. Submerge it in cold water and it'll thaw safely in a fraction of the time. And if you 'forget', it's still okay for longer than just exposed to sink air. Just pop it in the fridge if plans change.

Oh, the number of times I've done something similar... You forget one little thing, and suddenly dinner's a disaster. Still, nothing as tragic as a prime ribeye! Pour one out for the steak that never was. At least this is one mistake you won't repeat, am I right?

Gutted for your wallet and your stomach, mate. This is the kind of mistake that hurts both. If it happens again with a less premium cut (and I hope it doesn’t), you might turn it into a cooked meal immediately—if it hasn't been too long and doesn't smell off, that is. But always better to just avoid the situation!

Yikes, that's a bummer and a big no-no, safety-wise. Leaving meat out at room temp for more than a couple hours invites all sorts of bacteria that can make you real sick. Always set a timer or just thaw in the fridge next time. At least you've learned an important lesson, albeit an expensive one!
