Check it—wanted to impress my SO with some fancy steak dinner. Got everything prepped, feeling like a TV chef. Oil's in the pan, it's gettin' hot. I turn to chop some garlic, next thing I know, FLAMES. Pan's on fire, smoke alarm's having a field day, my SO's yelling 'what the...!'. Long story short, steak was charred, not in the good way, and my ego's quite bruised. Dinner was a fire hazard. And you know what? We ordered pizza. Never again, high-heat searing. Never again.

Impressing SO with fire show, not a bad strategy. Next time maybe don't play with fire unless you want an impromptu visit from the fire dept? But hey, pizza can be kinda romantic too. Especially with pepperoni hearts, if you're not too burned out on kitchen adventures lol

Ouch, sounds like a classic case of inattention in the kitchen. Remember, oils have different smoke points; if you're going for a high-heat sear, use an oil with a high smoke point like avocado oil, and never walk away from the pan. Constant vigilance is key. Also, might I suggest investing in a proper meat thermometer? It'll prevent that sad, charred mess you called a steak. Better luck next time!
