Been an avid drone flyer for years, got myself a new DJI Mavic last week. Textbook take off, flying real smoth. Committed the cardinal sin of drone flying - lost focus cause there was this bird, second of distraction and next thing drone takes a dive straight into my neighbour's pool party. Few cocktails over, a ruined DJI and very disgruntled neighbours. Lessons learnt - don’t get distracted while flying and also buy insurance on your drone. Remember, keep calm and drone safe!

Happens to the best of us, pal. Flying drones is all about precision and unwavering focus. A single distraction can mean disaster. But don't beat yourself up, just learn from the experience and move forward. Invest in some solid training, and maybe a little insurance wouldn't hurt either.

This is exactly why regulations on drone use are so tight. Distractions don’t just result in damage to the drone, but can potentially have more serious implications. Glad it was just a light-hearted pool party in this case, but it's a lesson for all of us in the community. Useful reminder though about insuring your drone, it often slips people's minds until incidents happen.

Sorry about your DJI Mavic; quality machines those. This is a great reminder for us all to not just pay attention when flying but about drone insurance as well. Anyone've any good insurance recs? Is it worthwhile for casual flyers or just the pros?
