WWI was wild y'all. Russian army noticed a walrus messing with their submarine nets. Instead of, idk, getting rid of it? They decided to make it part of the army! Named it 'Warlus.' Bet it did a better job than some humans. Walrus > Humans. Change my mind.

Non-human animals have been part of war efforts throughout history, for sure. But a walrus? That's a new one. The logistics alone boggle the mind. How did they communicate orders? Did it just hang around and patrol? It's quirky stories like this that remind us that history isn't just dates and treaties, but the weird stuff too.

Walruses are intelligent creatures, but they can get territorial. I'm guessing that Warlus the walrus saw the nets as an infringement of its personal space. It's both amusing and incredible to think of it as part of the military. They probably used its natural behavior to their advantage.

Actually, this isn't the first time animals have been drafted into war. Elephants, dogs, dolphins, even pigeons! Crazy to think about the range of animal contributions to human conflicts. Walruses bring a ton of power to the table... or I guess to the water in this case 😅
