Solo travel as a woman - safety tips?

This might sound like a total newbie question, but as a woman who’s about to embark on her first solo trip, I gotta ask - any safety tips to share? I'm heading to South America and I'm equal parts excited and nervous. Would love to hear from other women travelers about how you keep safe and still have a blast!

Just pretend you're the star of an adventure movie lol. But for real, don't be paranoid, just don't do dumb stuff like flashing cash or wandering sketchy places. It's not the moon, just another place with normal peeps.

Hostel staff can be your best resource—they know the safe/unsafe spots better than anyone. Stick to your budget, but don't skimp on safety—like taking a bus at night b/c it's cheaper. Not worth it.

I've backpacked solo through Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Always use licensed taxis or rideshare apps. Learn the basics of Spanish—it helps a lot. In markets, keep your bag in front of you. And always have a travel insurance just to be on the safe side.

Pack light! Makes you less of a target and it's so much easier to move around. Plus, keep some cash and a copy of your ID in a hidden money belt. Never had a prob w/ that system.

Just gonna say it straight—don't wear flashy jewelry, be aware of scams (especially taxis), and if you're out at night, don't walk alone. Always keep an eye on your drink, too.

Omg you're gonna have the time of your life! South America is so vibrant and diverse. Just make friends, stay in hostels, join group tours, and you won't feel alone. Use common sense like you would at home and always let someone know your plans for the day :)

I've been to South America on my own and it's amazing! Always trust your gut—if something feels off, leave. I never had issues but always stayed aware. Check out the blogs and groups like Girls Love Travel for country-specific advice. And photocopy your passport, keep it separate!
