Best lightweight tent for solo travel?

Yo fellow travelers, I'm in the market for a new tent that's gotta be light enough for solo backpacking but durable enough for some unpredictable weather. Anyone got personal recs? Trying to keep it under 200 bucks if possible. Cheers!

Why bring a tent at all? Just sleep under the stars, or a bridge. Who needs a tent anyway? 😉

If you’re into ultralight and OK with minimalistic designs, look at the Six Moon Designs Skyscape Scout. It's within your range, uses trekking poles for support, great for weight saving. The material is not the top-of-the-line though, so handle with care.

I swear by the North Face Stormbreak 1. It's seen me through some rough storms. Guy lines are solid and it's super easy to set up which is a godsend when a storm rolls in outta nowhere. Price is decent too, not sure about current prices but it used to be well under your limit.

You can't go wrong with the MSR Hubba NX solo tent. It's on the pricier side normally, but hit up those REI garage sales or look for last year's models. Cuts the weight without sacrificing protection from the elements, and the build quality is top-notch. Definitely worth stretching the budget a little if you can find a deal.

If you’re sticking to under $200, you might need to compromise a bit on either weight or durability. Durability's probably more crucial in unpredictable weather tho. Keep an eye on sales, you can sometimes snag a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 which is a dream for weight and durability.

Naturehike Cloud-Up 1 is pretty lightweight and should keep you under budget. Check it out.

For unpredictable weather, you'd want something that can withstand a bit more than your average fair-weather tent. Look into the Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1. It's a bit on the heavier side of ultra-light but super durable and reliable. Comes with a full-coverage fly and aluminum poles, which is a sweet deal for the price point. Stay safe out there!

Hey! I’ve been using the REI Co-op Passage 1 with the footprint and it's been solid. It's within your budget, and it's held up in some serious rain. I'd suggest springing for the footprint for some extra weather protection. Happy trails!
