The series was entirely claymation, I think it originated from the UK?
The series focused on a clown who had a pretty funny appearance and his name was something along the lines of Chalk. He lived in an island after his house got destroyed or something?
I remember the series airing on CBeebies.

Okay, I’ve got a good one for you. There was this obscure show called 'Bump in the Night', it's claymation, aired in the early nineties and there was a character named Mr. Bumpy who kinda looks like a clown...maybe? But it’s American and not on CBeebies. Could be a long shot though.

You're definitely thinking of 'The Trap Door'. It’s claymation and from the UK. The main character isn't a clown though, but a blue character named Berk. Still, worth checking out!

Indeed, Charlie Chalk is a treasured part of claymation history. It was created by Ivor Wood, who also worked on Postman Pat and The Magic Roundabout. Aired on the BBC in '88, it had a rather short run of only 13 episodes. If anyone is looking for a bit of that charming nostalgia, you can still find some of the episodes uploaded on video-sharing sites!

Ah, Charlie Chalk! Such a classic from my childhood! It's funny how certain memories just stick with ya, right? I remember the unique characters like Edward Trunk and the talking coconuts. There's something so special about those shows from the late 80s, wouldn’t ya say? They don't make 'em like that anymore!
