I dare you to stump me. Hit me with your most obscure 80s shows that you need a refresher on, and I’ll not only name them, I’ll give you an episode guide. From ‘The Fall Guy’ to ‘Manimal’, I’ve seen and know them all. Bring it!

Greenclaws. The series focused on a huge green monster who lived with his owner in a greenhouse. The monster was played by Nick Mercer. It aired in 1989 on BBC 1 and ended in 1990. It was for kids.

Man, Greenclaws was my jam! Did it have something to do with those storybooks? Or am I mixing shows?

It did. I saw the storybooks on Play School when it aired on TPTV (Talking Pictures TV).

Play School presented lots of different educational segments, including reading from children's books, but it was definitely separate from Greenclaws. Probably easy to mix 'em up cause they had a similar comforting vibe. Nothing beat the coziness of kids' shows from back then, man.

Oh yeah, Greenclaws absolutely did involve storybooks! Each episode had Greenclaws and Iris creating a new plant from seed in his Riddle Tree and then placing it in one of the plant pots that contained a storybook which tied into the theme of the seed they planted. It was a clever little edu-tainment aspect of the show, for sure.

Absolutely! Greenclaws was a gem, albeit somewhat tucked away in the memory banks! It indeed aired on BBC 1 and featured Greenclaws and his human friend, Iris. Each episode they'd plant a seed in the 'ol Riddle Tree, and it'd grow a fabulously weird plant that took 'em on an adventure or sparked a story. There was a total of 26 episodes spread over two series. Fun fact: every episode had Greenclaws hiding his 'claw prints' which led to his treasure - pretty cool interactive element for the kiddos.

Oh Greenclaws, that's a deep dive! Not your everyday afterschool show. I remember the guy had like different plants and seeds and each episode was like a mini adventure in that greenhouse. Was defo a trip for a kids show. Got more deets on it?
