Hey peeps, I'm hitting a wall on this one series I used to watch as a kid. It's stuck in my head and won't go away! Early 90s, there was this show, had a group of kids and this one alien dude with weird clothes. They had a secret base kinda thing, almost like a clubhouse? Secret handshakes, all that jazz. It was super quirky, had a bit of a 'Eerie, Indiana' vibe if ya know what I mean, but it wasn't that. Help me out here!

Based on your description, it seems like a conflation between 'Pete & Pete' for its quirkiness & clubhouse element, and 'Animorphs' for the alien component. Though Animorphs is a bit late for the early 90s timeframe. Could also possibly be 'The Tribe', more late 90s but ticks many boxes.

You might be on to something that's not as mainstream. Ever heard of 'The Zack Files'? It's got that supernatural feel with a group of kids solving mysteries. Not an alien per se, but def some weird otherworldly clothing going on in there.

Doesn't ring any bells on the alien side, but sounds like you could be talking about 'Space Cases'. It was quirky, had a group of kids in space with some aliens including a dude in weird clothes. Not exactly secret base, more like a spaceship, but maybe that's what's sticking in your mind.
