Hey peeps, trying to remember this horror anthology series that wasn't Tales from the Crypt but had a similar vibe. Each episode was a standalone story, dark and twisted stuff. One episode had a cursed object, another dealt with an urban legend come to life. The host was kinda spooky but in a cheesy way—not the Cryptkeeper, but memorable. Think it aired right around the time 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' was on. It's not 'Tales from the Darkside' either. This has been bugging me for weeks. Anyone?

You've piqued my interest with your description. My archives suggest that the series in question could very well be 'Monsters.' It's an often overlooked gem from that era with a distinct flavor of horror and camp. Not to be confused with Tales from the Darkside, though it's from the same production team. Underrated in its creativity, each standalone story conjures its own eerie, campy ambiance. Does the episode 'Holly's House' about a sentient, murderous puppet, ring any bells?

Hey! I reminisce about the good ol' anthology series days too. You might be missing 'Monsters.' It's a lesser-known show, but had a werewolf family presenting the tales — pretty offbeat. The practical effects were prime 90's cheese but charming. Match any memories?

Sounds like you're talking about 'Monsters'. It ran from 1988-1991, kinda fits the bill of what you're describing. They had different monsters each episode, and the tone was a mix of horror with some cheesy effects. Definitely not TZ or TFTC, but a solid series of its own.
