Greetings folks, I am on a quest to rediscover a gem from the early 2000s. The show in question had a marvelous premise involving parallel universes and a group of intrepid explorers. The protagonist had a personal stake in the journey, as he was searching for his lost brother who had disappeared into the multiverse.
The storytelling was ahead of its time, involving the butterfly effect with each universe visited. Clearly inspired by quantum physics theories, the series delved into the existential implications of infinite realities.
Some episodes stand out, such as one where every choice leads to a new reality, visualized as a branching tree, and another where they happen upon a dystopia that had suffered an ecological calamity.
I believe the show lasted for only a couple of seasons before an untimely cancellation left the story unresolved. If any of you aficionados remember this series, please share the title.

Hey, your description made me think of 'The Chronicle'. It's from 2001, about a tabloid news team investigating the supernatural. Not exactly parallel universes but it has a quirky take on sci-fi adventures. Dunno if it's the one you mean since there's no bro storyline.

Your quest seems to be pointing towards 'The Lost Room'. But that's a mini-series from 2006. Deals with objects from an alternate reality having special powers, and the protagonist's lost daughter is the personal stake. No ecological dystopias or branching realities tho. Anything else ring a bell?

idk if this helps but in that timeframe there was a show called 'Odyssey 5'. They're trying to prevent Earth's destruction which they've seen happen cause they got sent back in time. It's not really parallel universes but definitely has a similar sci-fi vibe?

You’re not thinking of 'Fringe', are you? It's not early 2000s, but it started in 2008. It’s got alternate universes, a fantastic cast, and all that butterfly effect jazz you mentioned. But there's no brother storyline, so it might be a miss.

Might be a long shot, but there's 'Charlie Jade'. It's a little-known show from 2005, fits your description pretty well. The main character is a detective from a parallel universe. Doesn't exactly look for his brother but has personal reasons to travel between universes. Only had one season, but it was a hidden gem!

That totally sounds like the show 'Sliders'. It was more 90s though but had parallel universes & they were looking for a way home. The main guy was searching for his lost bro in later seasons. But if it's early 2000s, might not be it, still worth checking out!
