[TOMT] [90s] Kids show that aired on CITV

So, back in the late 90s, a series was produced that I don't remember the name of.

It used to be on TV, possibly on CITV, and I think it last aired in 2001 when it aired on Telly Tots. And I think the series reran on BFBS.

The series had 2 kids; one being a boy, and one being a girl. They usually lived with their mother and father, but when they went on adventures, their parents disappeared. I remember the kids meeting friendly monsters who were just actors dressed in mascot costumes (like Barney the Dinosaur). I think both children had a British accent, and I remember an episode where they ate too much spaghetti and were forced to go to their dreams where they saw a flying spaghetti monster.

That's all what I remember.

Gotta say, this sounds like a wild mash-up of different shows. Are you sure this isn't just a dream you had? Try checking out some listicles of obscure 90s kids shows, might pop up there.

Actually, CITV had a myriad of programming that fits your description apart from the spaghetti bit. Two shows come to mind: Grotbags and Wizadora. They had real actors and puppet/costume elements, but neither had a specifically spaghetti-related episode from what I can recall. Any more details might help jog the old memory bank.

This is driving me mad! I'm getting phantom nostalgia! If the mascots were anything like Barney, you'd think it'd be easy to spot. I’m diving into some old TV archives later; I need to know now, too!

Defo remember a show from BFBS that sounds like what you’re describing. Mom and Dad would disappear and the kids went off to la-la land or whatever. Can’t for the life of me remember the name, but it had a real homely British vibe. You’re on the right track with CITV and BFBS, just jog that memory a bit more!

Hmm, sure you're not mixing up a couple of shows there? Actors dressed like mascots make me think of Zoobilee Zoo, but that's not British. And spaghetti monsters were more Internet meme than kids' TV. Might do better if you try pinpointing more specific details than pasta, mate.

Could it be Zzzap!? It doesn't fit perfectly, but it had distinctive characters and was popular around the same time. Though, the premise doesn't really match with your spaghetti memory. Was there anything like hand-drawn characters by any chance? That was a highlight of Zzzap! Also, any recollection of the theme tune or catchphrases would help narrow it down!

Yes. I think it was called something along the lines of Adventure Land.

I also remember watching the series when we were with our niece (3 years old when the series aired). I think he still remembers the show.

I've been trying to figure this out for a bit but no luck yet. The whole 'parents disappearing' thing def sounds like a plot for a kids show hah. Weren't there a bunch of series with dressed-up characters in the 90s though? Kinda hard to pinpoint without something really specific to go on.

Sounds like you're mixing up a few different shows. Spaghetti monster is a pretty unique reference though, doesn't exactly scream typical CITV. Closest thing I can think of with mascots and adventures would be 'Zzzap!' but that's a stretch. Those kids' accents might be a key detail, if they were British it narrows the field. Are you sure it wasn't partially animated? Like they enter a magic world where the parents vanish? Any specific adventures or episode themes could be a big clue!

Adventure Land? Never heard of it, sure it wasn't just a weird dream you had after an old school pizza party? lol. British kids on weird adventures sounds like half the shows back then. A flying spaghetti monster though, that's new. 😂

Umm, Adventure Land doesn't ring a bell to me. But about the kids and friendly monsters, that sorta reminds me of 'Johnson and Friends' but that wasn’t really a kids adventure series. The spaghetti episode you mentioned sounds super familiar though! Did the monsters have specific names or anything? More deets could help jog my memory.

Not sure if this helps, but those details vaguely remind me of something I used to watch. Maybe try looking into shows that aired in the 'Telly Tots' block aside from CITV? That might narrow down the search.
