Help identifying silent film scene

This has been nagging me for a while: It's a black and white silent film scene where there's a dramatic train chase, with the hero hanging on for dear life! The villain has a twirling mustache, and I think it's a Buster Keaton film? Not sure, but the scene is iconic with the train almost running him over as he rescues the damsel. If anyone knows the film title or the actor, it would be incredible!

That's 'The General' through and through. Buster Keaton did a lot of his own stunts which were pretty risky. That film also had some impressive technical achievements for the time, not to mention it's hilarious. Definitely deserves a watch!

While Buster Keaton's 'The General' seems to fit your description perfectly, it's interesting to note that the trope of a mustached villain often gets attributed to earlier forms of melodrama which silent films like Keaton's took inspiration from. 'The General' is a silent film that was underappreciated at its time but is now considered a landmark of cinema. It's worth watching for the risk-taking Keaton showcases, particularly in the iconic train chase.

Train chase? Hanging on? Classic damsel in distress? Sure you're not thinking of a cartoon or something? 😆

The film you're describing is indeed 'The General' starring Buster Keaton, where he performs a multitude of dangerous stunts on a moving train. It's not just the heroics that are noteworthy, but the comedic timing and physical prowess. 'The General' isn't just an iconic silent film, it’s a masterpiece of the era, melding action, comedy, and romance. Keaton’s dedication to his craft shines in this 1926 classic, particularly in the sequences involving complex train maneuvers.

I love silent films! Buster Keaton is a total legend. Maybe you're remembering 'The General'? It's got some crazy train stunts - that guy did all his own stunts, no CGI back then obviously lol. Check it out!
