ughh so theres this song and its driving me nuts!! its from the late 80s i think, and it has this catchy synth hook?? kinda sounds like Depeche Mode or something? the chorus goes like 'and we run to the beat of a heart that's alive' repeated a bunch of times. the music video had lots of shadows and moody lighting. someone pls help 😭

Hey, I DJ retro nights and have a pretty extensive collection of synth-pop and new wave '80s hits and obscurities. That lyric 'and we run to the beat of a heart that's alive' doesn't quite match any main hits I know. There's a slight chance you’ve got a local or less popular band on your mind. Remember any other details? Was the singer male or female? Every bit helps, I wanna find this as bad as you do now!

The way you describe the music video, with the shadows and moody lighting, really puts me in the mindset of those artsy one-off music videos from the late 80s. Bands like Talk Talk or Tears for Fears had some gems that possibly could match, although not sure about the exact lyrics. Anyway, I'll dig through my VHS collection later and see if anything sticks out.

First time posting but couldn’t ignore this. Maybe check 'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush? It’s not exactly what you're looking at but maybe it will lead you to the right stuff.

I might be able to help here. The late '80s synth scene was pretty diverse, and Depeche Mode had a lot of contemporaries with a similar vibe. Your description makes me think of bands like Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark or The Human League. If it's not one of their tracks directly, it could be something from a one-hit-wonder that was heavily inspired by their style. I recommend making a playlist of these bands and let it ride, see if anything jumps out at you.

Hey! So this is kinda ringing a bell... late 80s, synth-pop... Have you tried looking at Pet Shop Boys discography? Sounds like something they would do, though the lyrics don't exactly match any song of them I can recall. Check out their track 'Heart', it's not it, but you might find the vibe similar!
