A authentic NZ Mince and Cheese pie recipe you will love!

Okay peeps, if you want a taste of NZ, you can't go past a good old Mince and Cheese pie. Here's one that has served me well for many a rugby match! prep time 15 mins, cook time 30 mins, serves 8.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince,
  • 1 onion, finely chopped,
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced,
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce,
  • 1/2 cup beef stock,
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce (kiwi style),
  • 1/2 cup grated tasty cheese,
  • 4 sheets puff pastry,
  • 1 egg, beaten.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 220 degrees C and grease 8 individual pie tins.
  2. In a pan over medium-high heat, cook the onion, garlic and mince until browned. Stir in the stock, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce and cook for 5 more mins. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Let the mixture cool then stir in the cheese.
  4. Cut 8 circles from the pastry to line the tins, then cut 8 more circles for the tops.
  5. Fill each pastry case with mince mixture, then place a smaller circle of pastry on top, sealing the edges.
  6. Brush each pie with beaten egg and bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until golden.

Enjoy your homemade NZ pie!

Bless you for this! Been hankering for a taste of NZ, but unfortunately, can't find NZ style pies where I'm currently living. Going to give your recipe a go this weekend. Finally, I can have my pie and eat it too! Cheers, mate!

Mate, you've hit the nail on the head here. Nothing quite matches the taste of a well-made mince and cheese pie while cheering on the All Blacks! Your recipe was a hit at our last game night. Thanks for sharing!

Help!!!😫 Tried this out but my filling was too runny and leaked out the pastry. What did I do wrong??

Kia ora! Happy to see the humble kiwi pie being celebrated. Thanks for spreading the NZ love. Recipe looks solid, though, I think a couple of teaspoons of Marmite mixed with the beef mince wouldn't go amiss. That's my secret twist anyway. Cheers, bro!

Puff pastry? Rozzers. Proper NZ pie uses flaky pastry, mate. Homemade, if you can manage. That stuff you buy in the store ain't going to give you the same texture. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

Sounds delish! Not familiar with the kiwi style tomato sauce though, can I use regular one instead?

Ahh, this takes me back to the good ol' days watching footy with a hot mince and cheese pie in hand. Killer recipe mate! Reminds me of the ones I used to enjoy back home in Wellington. Never considered adding Worcestershire sauce, will give it a try next time. Cheers for this!
