BBC learning show?

I remember watching this as a kid, I remember the host teaching the viewers words in other languages (like German, Spanish, French, Chinese...). I think the series' run was short lived, but gained a lot of following. Sadly, I don't remember the series name (and it is not El Nombre, since the show teaches children about numbers!).

This might be a long shot, but could it be 'Big Babble On'? They had segments with different languages. Not sure if it's the one, but hoping this might jog your memory!

Dude I think I know what you're talking about! Wasn't there this show where they had like a vocabulary section, and they'd act out scenes to show the meaning of words? Ahh, I can't remember the name either, it's gonna bug me all day now.

This is quite the enigma. Without more details, it's hard to pinpoint exactly which show you're referring to. Language educational programs aren't that common, but I'd recommend filtering through BBC's archived children's shows from the timeframe when you were young. Many educational shows like the one you're describing tend to blur together since they often reuse successful teaching concepts.

It sounds like you're describing 'Word Travels' which had short episodes focused on different languages. If I recall correctly, it wasn't a long-running series but it did have quite a bit of charm and educational value. Featured a live host and animated characters if memory serves me right.

not sure if this helps but there was a show I remember called 'Muzzy in Gondoland'. It was an educational series about this big furry alien who'd go around teaching languages. It might be a bit older than what ur looking for though.

No, it only teached children French, but I found the answer. It's The Lingo Show, and it aired on BBC 2 and on CBeebies!

Oh, for sure, The Lingo Show was more than French! Each bug represented a different language and taught viewers simple phrases or words. It’s actually pretty clever when you think about it—introducing young kids to language diversity early on. I believe the show aimed to make language learning fun without overwhelming the little ones. It'd feature cool facts about the countries where the language was spoken too. Pretty innovative for a children's show at that time!

Ah The Lingo Show, that brings back memories… Wasn’t just about French tho, they had characters for each language they introduced. Like the German bug, Lieb who loved to say ‘Ich liebe liebe liebe’ – lol meant I love, love, love. Cracked me up everytime 😆

No way! The catchphrase you're mentioning was "I'm always on the go! I'm here to say, hallo!". And I think the series aired on GOLTV (a Latin American channel that wasn't English at all) when a hijacking was made and was temporarily repurposed into a preschool channel in English by some hackers.

No evidence of that GOLTV story exists as far as I can dig up, and believe me, I went down the rabbit hole. We should take that claim with a grain of salt. Are you sure you're not mixing up some memories? It's super easy to do especially with stories heard second-hand. The Lingo Show aired on CBeebies, any other 'broadcasts' especially via hackers seems like an urban legend or a myth.

Wait, what? GOLTV went all preschool on us? Never caught that! 😆 Gotta admit tho, The Lingo Show was my jam. Those bugs and their phrases were the first things that got me into languages. 'Ich liebe liebe liebe' was catchy alright. TV hijacking sounds way outta left field tho, got any more deets on that story?

Interesting mention of GOLTV, but I must clarify as a media historian; there's no recorded evidence of such a hijacking incident concerning GOLTV. Channel takeovers are certainly possible, but they typically gain substantial media attention. It's important that we cross-examine such claims with credible sources to avoid misrepresentation of events. Regarding The Lingo Show's catchphrase, memory can sometimes play tricks, especially with shows from our childhood.

omg, a hijacking that turned into a preschool channel, now I've heard everything 😂. But I can’t find anything on this GOLTV story, are you sure it happened? Would've been young me's dream come true, I was obsessed with language shows. The Lingo Show was decent, but did ya’ll ever watch Muzzy in Gondoland? Now that was epic.

The Lingo Show was pretty awesome, but don't forget it did teach other languages too! Big Bug Shows taught some Mandarin, Spanish and even a bit of Welsh. I remember Wei teaching viewers the word for 'jump' in Mandarin, which was hilarious cuz of all the springy legs!

Hmm, this is a tricky one! Are you thinking of 'The Lingo Show'? It aired on CBeebies, and it had bugs teaching kids words in different languages. It's more animated though but might be what you're remembering?
