So, I remember watching this show when I was a kid.
It involved 2 ragdolls, one was male, and one was female, who lived in a boat along with a wooden duck. I remember an episode where they discovered a factory where bread is made.
Sadly, I don't remember the show's name, and I think the series was not available outside of the UK! And I think the series aired on CITV.

To everyone saying this is 'Tots TV' – absolutely spot on. The show was a collaboration between Ragdoll Productions and Central Independent Television, which explained the creativity and quirkiness of its concept. Each episode featured segments teaching kids basic French, which was quite avant-garde for children’s programming at the time – a nod to the multicultural education, way before Dora the Explorer. The exploration of the bread factory was part of Tots TV’s educational foray into real-life processes and how things are made; the show fused fantastical puppetry with tangible learning experiences.

Sadly, it wasn't. I think one of the puppets was called Jim. And I don't think there was a French speaking person in the series.

rosie and jim?! never heard of it lol. u guys sure it's not something like playdays? idk just throwing it out there since everyone's guessing

Yes, that's right. The series only aired in the UK (CITV, CBeebies), USA (PBS Kids, Sprout), Australia (ABC Kids), and Hong Kong (TVB Pearl, the English speaking version of TVB Jade). I don't think the series had dubs, and I remember the show not being dubbed at al.

You're spot on with the non-dubbing thing. Rosie and Jim really was a slice of British kids' TV not majorly tampered with for international audiences. I reckon its simplicity and the whole exploration vibe with the canal boat was what drew kids in. Plus, the actual puppetry gave it a really cozy feel compared to all the CGI stuff they pump out now. I do miss the good old days of CITV and CBeebies, shows had a whole different vibe then.

Just to clarify, Rosie and Jim wasn't created by Pat Hutchins. It was actually John Cunliffe, the same guy who did Postman Pat. And yup, they never did dubs for it. Purely English speaking which I guess kinda added to its charm in other countries. Straightforward but somehow really engaging for us kids with the whole exploring the world concept.

That's right. Rumors said that the show got dubbed in either Welsh or Spanish, but they did not dub the series. And yes, they actually aired in Ireland on RTE in the same original language of the series (English). Some people say they watched the show in Irish on TG4, but they may be lying. I also found out Rosie and Jim had a cancelled SNES platformer game and a theatrical movie.

A theatrical movie though? Wow, no idea about that. Would’ve been interesting to see how they’d adapt it for the big screen. Imagine the ragdolls going on some grand adventure. Or maybe it was going to be one of those educational but magical sorta films?

About the Irish dub rumor, wouldn't surprise me if they mixed up some other show with Rosie and Jim. People sometimes do mash-up their childhood memories. As for TG4, they do have some content in Irish, so that's probably where the confusion is from.

That cancelled SNES game is new to me. Pretty wild to think Rosie and Jim could've been jumping around on a console. There's a lot of trivia about 90s shows and their almost-made-it-to-market merch. Would've loved to see that, especially considering the platformers of that era like Super Mario.

Ah nostalgia bomb! Rosie & Jim used to be the highlight of my days as a kiddo. Those two ragdolls just floating down the canal, so whimsical. The handwriting song was stuck in my head for YEARS. Annoyingly catchy lol. Plus, I think Pat Hutchins, who did a bunch of kids' books, was behind it?? Don’t quote me on that tho. I wonder what it would be like to watch it now, probably super weird seeing it as an adult.

rosie and jim, mate, that takes me back! I loved that show, with the boat and the duck and everything. I think the puppet's name was actually Jim, so kudos to remembering that! Gotta love how those childhood memories pop up outta nowhere, and you just gotta know what it was. Anyway, it was a relatively well-known show here, fondly remembered by those who grew up in the 90s.

They're right, it's Rosie and Jim! Tots remember the opening theme playing in my head now lol. The puppets were Rosie & Jim, and they lived on a narrowboat. No French narrators but there was John, he was the 'writer' doing the illustration and stuff. Sometimes ppl mix it up with 'Tots TV' which had a French character. Easy to get those confused, both were pretty popular on CITV back in the day.

Oh dude, this is def Rosy and Jim! Classic CITV material. They travelled on a boat called The Ragdoll if I remember right. There wasn't much French going on haha, so you got that part right. Can't believe you forgot the name if you knew one of the puppet's names was Jim! Look it up, it's all over YouTube now for that old school throwback vibe.

This is definitely 'Tots TV' we're talking about here. The show originally aired on CITV and featured three ragdoll friends – Tilly, Tom, and Tiny, who lived in an old-fashioned secret hideaway. It's a bit of a deep cut - it aired in multiple countries, but the original language was a mix of English and French since Tilly spoke French. The episode with the bread factory you're thinking of is well-remembered as part of the 'real world' sequences where they explored everyday places.

Ha ha, I remember this, and the Spanish dub that aired on Discovery Kids LatAm. But it's not the correct show, and the one that I'm mentioning wasn't exported outside of the UK, and had one of the puppets who was called Jim.

From your description, it sounds a lot like 'Rosie and Jim' they were two ragdolls and they had a friend who is a duck. And yes, they did live on a boat - The Ragdoll boat! Jim fits right in and it aired on CITV if I'm not mistaken. I remember the bread factory episode as well, pretty certain that's the show you're looking for. You can probably find some old episodes on YouTube or on nostalgic DVD collections.

The Big Boat Adventure?? That was a classic! If memory serves, Jim was the goofy one always getting into mishaps, and I definitely recall them exploring all sorts of places. Bit foggy on some details but that bread factory ep sounds super familiar. Gunna rummage through some old VHS tapes, maybe I've got an ep or two recorded!
