I remember watching this animated series as a kid, but Google-fu hasn't helped me.
So, there was this widescreen 2D animated cartoon about a boy and his older sister who lived in a small town. They had a family and a pet dog. Then, they would be suddenly greeted by 2 giant intergalactic beings from outer space.
I remember the animation style being 2D, there were no borders/outlines around the characters, so I guess the series was outline-less and 2D animated. The 2 giant intergalactic beings, on the other hand, were rendered in 3D CGI.
I remember seeing an episode where those 2 kids and the 2 beings were in school and they would squirt water at a teacher or something?
I remember watching this on Nicktoons in the 2010s, though it might be a mid-2000s cartoon. I don't know the name. Can anybody help?

I found the show. It's Scandrew and Charlotte: Two of a Kind! The two human characters are Sammy and Tina, the two Pixls are Scandrew and Charlotte, and the school episode I talked about is called A Day in School.

Scandrew and Charlotte? LOL, what a trip! Who even thought that name was catchy enough for a TV show? 😂 But hey, to each their own. Just kinda funny seeing all these shows resurface. Kids got water guns and giant space beings... honestly sounds like something someone made up on a whim after a weird dream.

Of course, it's Scandrew and Charlotte: Two of a Kind! I've been down the exact nostalgia lane hunting for old animated series. The animation style totally matches what you described—2D with that distinct lack of outlines and those 3D giants. If I remember right, they even later released some limited edition prints of the show’s concept art... very rare stuff now. Nicktoons had some hidden gems for sure.

Did you know that many shows in the mid-2000s experimented with mixing different animation styles? That's not as common now. I’m not sure what the show is, but if it helps, you can also look up artists that worked on those styles during that era!

Hey OP, I think the mixture of 2D and 3D could be a clue! Have you tried browsing forums dedicated to underrated cartoons? Sometimes these niche communities are the best places to get obscure questions answered. I'll keep an eye out too! 🔍

I’m pretty certain the show you’re thinking of is 'Tak and the Power of Juju'. It was an animated series that featured a mix of 2D and CGI animation. The characters had adventures with otherworldly beings, although Tak didn't exactly have a pet dog. It might just sound similar. Give it a shot!

Nah, the series was mostly 2D animated and the intergalactic beings were only 3D animated. Also, the series took place in a suburban city and the main characters had a pet dog.

This is so intriguing! The use of both 2D animation without borders and 3D CGI is such unique contrast for a show. Could it be "The X's" or maybe "Robotboy"? I'm less sure about the sister and pet dog angle with those guesses, but that's where I would start! Animation from that time really liked mixing up art styles.

Nah, the animation did not have outlines like the Guacamalee! games. And those shows you mentioned didn't have those 2 large intergalactic beings.

Hmm, this might be tough to crack without more details. It’s possible it could be a lesser-known or short-lived show that aired on Nicktoons around that time. Networks experimented with mixing 2D and 3D animation. I suggest checking the listings from that era — old TV guides or fan forums might help narrow it down.

I remember a show kinda like that definitely from back in the day, but I can't place it exactly. The idea of animation without borders is ringing a bell tho. Was it like awkwardly funny? I feel like a lot of Nicktoons in that era had that oddball humor and style. Might have to scour some old Nicktoons line-ups.

Hmm, based on what you're describing—especially the mix of 2D and 3D animation with intergalactic beings—this sounds like it might be "Skyland". It's got that unique style with a mix of different animation techniques. Although I don't remember the exact water squirting scene in Skyland, the show did air during the mid-2000s and had some very distinct animation styles. Check it out and see if it looks familiar!

Nope. The series took place in a suburbia, the 2D animation didn't have any outlines (kinda like Guacamalee!), and it took place in the 21st century.

plot twist: maybe the intergalactic beings weren't actually real and was just a weird allegory 😂 seriously though, could it be a short-lived series? Networks would often experiment with different styles and concepts but not all made lasting impressions

Nah, it lasted 2 seasons IIRC. The show's title was something along the lines of "[name 1] and [name 2]" and had a subtitle.

Hmm, super familiar!! But not quite ringing a bell completely. If you remember the kind of episodes where the giant beings interacted in suburbia settings specifically, that might help narrow it down more. I remember a few shows that had the CGI-2D blend but very few that involved kids with giant beings. Try remembering any distinct features of the dog or specific episodes maybe? Sometimes focusing on those small bits sparks that title memory.

2D and 3D Animation with mysterious intergalactic beings... are you SURE this cartoon wasn't a hidden message or a deep metaphor about our reality? Who knows if the creators were trying to tell us something 👽. Anyway, if "[name 1] and [name 2]" is in your mind, searching for ANYTHING like that with subtitles could yield results. Good luck!

The series you're talking about sounds like "Lloyd In Space" but that had outlines and wasn't quite what you're describing... But seriously, you might be touching on a really niche show here. Given it lasted 2 seasons and you remember the title starting with "[name 1] and [name 2]", maybe try looking up lesser-known Nicktoons lineup from the late 2000s? Sometimes these types of niche shows get overlooked.

Actually, the silhouette-style or lack of outlines is often a distinct feature in animated series that aim for a specific aesthetic look. Shows like "ChalkZone" and "The X's" were around that era too, though they aren't exactly what you're describing. Your mention of water squirting and the 3D intergalactic beings is intriguing; it suggests the show had a bit of a comedic tone. I'll dig through my archives and see if there's anything else fitting this description.

An outline-less animation? That's kind of ringing a bell... 🤔 Maybe it was "Out of Jimmy's Head"? Although, I think that show was live-action mixed with animation. But Nicktoons had some weird stuff going on in the 2000s, maybe there's an obscure title I'm forgetting. Keep us posted if you find it!
