I’ve read this fantasy series a couple of years back and for the life of me can’t remember the name. It’s comparable to Game of Thrones in terms of epic scale, but I remember distinctively that the magic system was super detailed, involving colors? There were like different factions or houses, and the world-building was insane. The author was a big name I think, and it might have even won some fantasy awards. Any fellow bookworms recall this one?

It's gotta be the Lightbringer Series. Epic doesn't even begin to cover it. Political intrigue, complex relationships, and morality that's anything but black and white—plus that color magic system that ties into everything. If you're looking for a series that's gonna consume your life, that's the one.

Brent Weeks' 'The Lightbringer Series' is what you're after. As someone who dabbles in writing, the way Weeks constructs the world based on the spectrum of light is remarkable. The politics and warfare remind me of GoT, but with a unique twist with the drafters and their color-based abilities.

Definitely 'The Lightbringer Series'! It's been nominated for the David Gemmell Legend Awards, and Weeks is known for his intricate magic systems. Each color represents a different kind of magic, and the social hierarchy and conflicts are deeply intertwined with it. The characters are super well-developed too. High chance that’s what you are remembering.
