I don't get it, why do you guys even care about these things... I lost my tv remote five years ago and haven't had a problem since. Just get up and change the channel like a normal person LOL

Actually, the evolution of remote controls is quite fascinating. They transformed the way we interacted with our devices, moving us from a hands-on approach to the pure convenience we experience today. Imagine having to manually tune your TV channels each time, possibly even a separate button for each channel! You might think it's 'normal' to get up and change the channel, but it's only because of remotes that we're able to appreciate that normality :)

Just a reminder everyone, let's keep the conversation respectful. This subreddit is dedicated to all things related to remote controls, and while everyone doesn't have to share the same enthusiasm, different views are always welcome if expressed in a polite manner.

While I understand not everyone is going to share this view, I think it's important to remember the environmental costs of constantly replacing remotes. They're made mostly of plastic, and when they stop working they typically end up in a landfill. Plus, most people don't properly dispose of the batteries, which can leak harmful chemicals. I think if more people opted for a simpler technological setup (like only using their phone), it could reduce some of this waste and pollution.

Ya know, some of us appreciate the nostalgia and collectability of certain old remotes, especially the ones from the early days of television. It's not always about practicality, but the history and design of these small gadgets that were so integral to changing how people consumed media.
