After a solid decade of searching through obscure game forums and contacting ex-developers, I've finally managed to get a few minutes of gameplay from the unreleased 'Space Invaders: Ground Assault'. It's not much but it shows the transition from vertical to horizontal gameplay. I'm in the process of digital restoration and will update when the footage is ready to be shown!

Huh, worked at an arcade game co around that era and heard whispers about this project. If it's the one I'm thinking of, licensing issues killed it, which was too bad 'cause it had potential. The change to horizontal was to leverage the screen real estate better for arcades. At least, that's the scuttlebutt.

Absolutely marvelous, a piece of gaming history unearthed! Space Invaders defined an era and to see a sequel that never made it to the light of day is tantalizing. Beyond the gameplay clip, are there any storyboard or concept art available? Documentation on development notes or interviews with the creators would be incredible to see alongside the footage.

Absolutely stellar work on tracking this down! As someone who documents lost media from a dev perspective, this is gold. Could you shed some light on the tools and processes you went through for the restoration? It could be incredibly educational for us trying to preserve other pieces of gaming history.

This is groundbreaking for the retro community! "Ground Assault" was such a mysterious title with hardly any concrete info out there. I'm particularly interested in analyzing the transition mechanics and the impact on the player's experience. Do you have info on the developers and what their vision was for the game?
