Ultimate Guide to Optimizing Your Dedicated Game Server Performance

This is for all you gamers and server hosts out there looking to get the most outta your hardware. Buckle up, because this is gonna be long but it'll totally boost your server game.

CPU: You need something with strong single-threaded performance. Games like ARK, Rust, and Minecraft benefit massively from a beefy CPU.

RAM: 16GB is your sweet spot for starters, but the more the merrier especially for heavily modded servers or big player counts. Make sure it's fast too.

Storage: SSDs, folks. NVMe if possible. Faster load times, less lag for your players, a real game-changer.

Network: Aim for at least 1Gbps up/down, and for the love of gaming, make sure that connection is STABLE. Port forwarding is a given, make sure you’re on top of your firewall rules.

OS: This is more about preference but go for something you’re comfortable with, just ensure it’s lightweight. Every MB of RAM counts.

Mods and Plugins: Keep these updated and prune the ones you don't need. They can hog resources like nobody's business.

Regular Maintenance: Keep that software updated, and reboot regularly to keep things fresh.

Have specific questions or need help tweaking? Just drop a message. Let's get those frags up and lag down!

Man I didn't realize how complex running a server could be, kudos to you guys who figure all this out just so we can play without lag haha. Got any advice for those of us who might wanna start small? Maybe something a bit less... intense?

Comprehensive guide you've got here. I'd add that server admins should also look into overclocking their CPUs for better performance, provided their cooling solution is up to the task. On top of that, making sure your BIOS settings and server's power plan are optimized for performance can make a significant difference. Also, don't skimp on a good UPS - power stability is just as important as internet stability.

Hey, thanks for this guide! I just started hosting my own ARK server for me and my buddies. Not super techy, so this is a lifesaver. The RAM tip is what I needed, gonna upgrade mine this weekend. Cheers!

Nice 'ultimate guide' bro but you forgot the most important part - download more RAM duh! Everyone knows that's a huge performance boost 🙄

For those who are less familiar with server OS choices, I recommend trying out something like Debian or Ubuntu Server. They're free, there's a lot of support online, and they're pretty lightweight so you can squeeze out all the performance from your hardware. Also, they're great if you plan to use Linux-specific server management tools.

eh, some of this is ok but u didn't mention anything about tick rates or how to prioritize gaming packets. if u run a comp server, tick rate settings are as crucial as ur CPU. might wanna add that, just sayin'

Can't stress enough how important it is to keep mods updated. Had an outdated mod nearly crash my whole Minecraft server last month. Took ages to troubleshoot. Always keep a backup before you slap on a new mod too!

Solid advice man, especially on the CPU part. Been running a Rust server and once I upgraded to a CPU with better single-thread performance, it's like night and day difference. Players stopped complaining 'bout lag spikes.
