Hey folks, after weeks of tinkering, I finally got my Plex server up and running on a custom-built NAS! It’s rocking an Intel i5 with 16GB of RAM. Currently, it's loaded with 20TB of storage – that's a mix of movies, TV shows, and a ton of anime. Honestly, setting up the RAID was a bit of a headache, but the data redundancy is worth it. If anyone's looking to build their own and needs tips, hit me up! Would love to share the knowledge and learn from others here too! :)

Props on the new Plex server! That Intel i5 should handle transcoding pretty well. Just curious, what codecs are you mainly using, and have you forced direct play for your devices? Also, have you messed with any advanced Plex settings for better streaming performance or quality?

From one data hoarder to another, congrats on the build! I'm sitting on 48TB myself. Love that you've gone the RAID route for redundancy. You can never be too safe with precious data. Ever think about offsite backups, though? For that real peace of mind, consider cloud backup or a separate offsite NAS.

Help needed! Complete newbie here. Looking to start my own NAS, but I'm intimidated by the hardware part. How did you choose your components? And is Plex the best way to go for streaming to multiple devices? Completely clueless, so any tips for beginners would be ace.

Nice job on your build! Setting up RAID can be tricky for sure. What configuration did you end up with, RAID 5 or RAID 6? And did you go with hardware or software RAID? It's always a big decision with that much data on the line. Anyway, props for getting it done, always nice to see a DIY success story.

That's a sweet setup you've got there! I've been thinking about doing something similar. How's the streaming performance with that i5, any lag with 4K or high bitrate files? And dude, 20TB is massive! Bet you've got some rare finds in that collection. 🎬
