Scammed by an app

I've downloaded an app called "SuperData" (BTW, it was made in South Africa) which is advertised as an app that frees your data so you can download big files without losing your memory. The app icon was even a silhouette of a superhero with a cape. However, when I got to try it after an early access giveaway, they took away my money. Not lying. They asked me to enter my credit card info so I can pay a $30 fee to get access to the app, and when I got access, they took away my life savings and all I got was a poor UI with a fake button to clean data. Unfortunately, the app didn't work, and I got with a developer on Gmail. He said that he would not take back my money and he would fix the issue within V.0.1. However, he lied, as shortly after I got in touch, he delisted the app and said "UPDATE: App is closed, Have fun!". The end.

Flag this up with the app store and any anti-fraud websites. U might not be the only one. Plus, make sure you report it to your local cybercrime authorities, could help take down the guys behind it.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Try using some sort of malware scanner on your device to make sure the app didn't leave behind anything malicious. Keep all the communication with the developer for evidence. Good luck, mate!

Not buying this. Who pays $30 for an app like that upfront? No free trial? Sounds like a load of BS to me.

It was on App Store. It was in early access and some developer gave me a free private Bit.ly link to access the app. Then they asked me for a meeting, and I said no. Then he swore at me and insulted me.

He then said he would take away my money and never give it to me.

lmao 'SuperData' more like 'Superscam'! Been saying it for years, if it smells like a scam, it's a scam. Why'd you even fall for that? 😂

Hey, just so y'all know, always check the dev's reputation and app reviews, even for early access stuff. Also, any legit app won't ask for that much money upfront without a trial period. Sorry to hear what happened to you, OP. Total bummer.

Sounds like a classic advance fee scam, but with a nasty modern twist involving apps. Definitely file a report with Apple, and you might want to get the authorities involved as well. This is serious fraud. Also, for future reference, never give out credit card info to sources you can't verify as 100% legit. Stay safe out there!

Man, that's rough. You should report this to Apple ASAP and also make a complaint with your bank. Scammers pulling this sort of trick on the app store is a new low. Hope you can get your life savings back, dude.

Yikes! Apps that claim to clear data or save memory but ask for an upfront payment are classic scam material. For your next steps:

  1. Contact your credit card company to dispute the charge immediately.
  2. Change all your passwords if you fear further unauthorized access.
  3. Inform the consumer protection agency in your country to start an investigation.
  4. Spread the word so others don't fall for this scam.

Good luck, and stay vigilant!

Dude, that's rough. Been there with a similar app scam. Contact your bank ASAP and report the transaction as fraudulent, they might be able to reverse the charge. Also, report it on any platform the app was advertised. Watch out for those 'data-free' promises, they're often too good to be true.
