Romance Scams: They're playing with your heart

Feels embarrassing to admit, but I got caught in a romance scam. Met someone online, really hit it off. A few months in, they needed money for an 'emergency'. I sent it. Then they vanished. It's a classic play. Protect your heart and your wallet, folks.

Seen so many stories like this, it's pandemic. They prey on kindness and generosity. It's a twisted game, but you're wiser now, and that's worth a lot. Chin up, and keep those wallets shut tight!

Been there, it's brutal. Felt totally dumb for a while. Took me a bit to trust again, but it gets better. Watch out for sob stories and too-good-to-be-true sweet talkers.

You should report this to the police and any online fraud agencies ASAP. There’s a slim chance you might get your money back, but more importantly, you could help prevent them from scamming someone else.

Luckily never fell for it, but seen friends go down that road. It always starts the same: long convos, getting close, then boom - 'Oh no, my car broke, need cash'. Classic. If someone online that you never met IRL asks for money, it's a red flag... Period.

That's rough, sorry you had to go through it. It's a common scam tactic known as a 'catfish.' They reel you in with affection then hit you with a fake story. Always do a reverse image search and never send money to anyone you haven't met in person!

I'm really sorry to hear that, it's awful when someone takes advantage of your feelings like that. Remember it's not a reflection on you, these scammers are just really good at what they do. Big hug and hang in there.
