Is this a scam or real?

Got an email from Paypal (or at least it looked like from Paypal) saying my account’s restricted & I need to update my details. They provided a link. Should I click it? I'm not sure if it's legit.

Just another example of the crooks trying steal our hard-earned money. So-called 'phishing' is another tool of the illuminati. But by being on guard, we fight back against the shadowy powers. Never trust an email, man!

I think my grandson mentioned something like this. It's not safe I assume. Best to just ignore those, dear.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it's probably a duck. Or a scammer pretending to be PayPal. So no, don't click it, it's probably phishing.

Cybersecurity expert here.

You absolutely should not click the link.

This is a common phishing attempt. The attacker's goal is to trick you into providing your login credentials. Typically, the email's link leads to a fake website, carefully designed to look like the genuine PayPal site. Once you enter your credentials, they're captured by the scammer.

Best practices when you come across such emails are to:

  1. Avoid clicking any links.
  2. Never provide sensitive information directly through email.
  3. Check the email's sender details.
  4. If in doubt, contact customer support of the respective service directly, like PayPal support in this case.

Lastly, remember to educate your friends and family about such scams. Stay safe!

Yeah, I'd be careful with that. If it's your actual PayPal account, login directly through the PayPal website and check your messages there. If there's really an issue, you'll see it. Mysterious emails like this are usually scams.

Seems totally legit to me. Go for it. Who doesn't love giving their personal details to potential scammers? Fun times. Just kidding, obviously it's a scam.

Oh, I had a same kinda email recently. Scared the hell outta me! Thought I lost all my money. But then my friend said it’s probably just phishing. Not sure what that means tho.

Definitely sounds fishy, dude. Real PayPal notices about account issues will direct you to log in to your account through the app or the official website, not via email links. They also usually address you by your first and last name, not as 'Dear customer' or similar. Don't click the link; instead, check your account through PayPal's official site.
