In 1997, a day after Channel 5 launched, the channel began airing a British adaptation of the beloved Australian soap opera Home and Away.
The UK dub retained the title as the original Australian version. IIRC, the series lasted 2 seasons, and the final season aired in 1999.
The series focused on the same characters and the same location, albeit with different voice acting and a different beach (in the UK this time). Some of the voice actors went to work on Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, and as CBBC presenters.
The series lasted for 52 episodes, 2 seasons. Each season had 26 episodes. Each of them had a 2-episode segment like in PAW Patrol (2013-present).
Sadly, as of 2013, all episodes have been taken down from YouTube, making the series lost.

Crazy stuff, got to love the 90s era channels throwing everything at the wall to see wat sticks. i trade in old VHS tapes, if anyone´s seen these tapes floating about at car boot sales or in old boxes, hit me up bc that'd be quite the find. keeping an eye out for sure!

Indeed, the UK version of Home and Away is not well-documented, posing a significant challenge for researchers and enthusiasts of lost media. The late 90s were a time of experimentation for new channels like Channel 5, attempting to establish their identity. Yet, the fact that it lasted for two seasons suggests a reasonable if not significant viewership. Have there been any efforts to reach out to Channel 5 directly or to broadcasters' associations that may have archives?

I used to watch both the Australian and UK versions! It was so quirky hearing familiar characters with different voices. Really wish Channel 5 kept those episodes somewhere. Anyone know if the voice actors have talked about this gig in interviews or something? Might lead to some clues.

This is a fascinating bit of lost media. The UK adaptation of Home and Away was a bold move by Channel 5, especially considering the original's popularity. The lack of reruns or digital releases has certainly contributed to its obscurity. There's a challenge here for the community—to track down former cast and crew or broadcasting archives that might have copies. Networking and attending fan conventions could turn up leads—someone out there has got to remember something.

omg this is a blast from the past! I remember catching an episode or two back in the day but had no idea there were 2 full seasons. typical that channel 5 would try something like this so early in their history. did anyone manage to record these episodes? my VHS collection is crying out for this kinda thing!
