I'm on the hunt for a mixtape from the mid-'80s known as Dawn of Synths. My mates reckon it was the best mix of synthpop tracks around but I've never heard it. It was apparently only sold at a couple of record shops in London for a limited time. Desperate to get my hands on it and relive the glory days. Anyone got a clue?

Dawn of Synths, absolute unicorn of a mixtape. Notoriously hard to track as it was a sort of a bootleg. The real value is in the curation of tracks. Die-hard fans made digital playlists, not the same, but it's the closest you'll get until you find the real deal. Sharing a lead is like giving away treasure, but check Discogs and eBay sporadically; copies do surface now and then.

Those were the days huh? The mix you're on about was a brain-melter, always on replay at our house parties. It wasn't official, so super hard to find now. I've got old mixtape boxes in the attic. If I find it, I'll let ya know, fingers crossed. It deserves to be heard.

The quest for 'Dawn of Synths' is a noble one. Several leads turned out to be dead ends, I’m afraid. There was a DJ who used to play bits of it at clubs. Try reaching out to radiophonic archives or those who curated club scenes back then. Oftentimes, these guys copied stuff for personal use.

Alright, 'Dawn of Synths', that's a deep cut. Few shops in Soho used to stock them next to the imported 12" records. Best bet would be checking out the second-hand shops, some sellers don’t even know what they have. Check the stalls at Brick Lane Market too!
