Sometime around late 2012 or early 2013, a YouTuber known as "Mariomations" (who seems to have deleted the entire channel by himself due to a copyright lawsuit against Nintendo and him) uploaded Yoshi and the Rainbow, which was a fan animation video entirely made using Flash animation, and was 2D.
The video began with Yoshi walking, until a rainbow appears. He then spots it, and tries to flutter jump, but can't reach the rainbow. Then, he finds some boots, that gives him the power to walk on walls. Then, we cut to a scene where Yoshi walks to the castle and spots a cloud leading to the rainbow. Then, at the very end, Yoshi is seen at the top of the rainbow, smiling, until we fade to black.
All I could find of this video is the video's thumbnail. I also managed to salvage the full video on my old computer (which is still in good condition), but I won't upload it, thus rendering the video lost media.

Seen a lot of fan works get hit over the years. It's rough but Nintendo's known for being protective of their IPs. Even if it's a pain for the fandom, gotta respect the laws. Sad to think about all that creativity just poof, gone. Mariomations did good stuff.

Yes. I also used to watch their other lost media fan animation where Mario used a pill to spawn a clone of him and at the end he revealed himself to be a lizard like creature disguised as a human. I remember the channel being terminated sometime in 2023?

First time poster here, just registered to chime in! I actually studied Mariomations’ work in my animation class. Their fan vids were a great example of how far you could push Flash before everything switched over to HTML5. Super nostalgic! Does anyone else here make animations? We could totally do a collab to pay homage!

Yeah, the termination happened early 2023 - it made quite the stir among the community since Mariomations had such a unique take on the Mario universe. That clone Mario animation was legit creepy, the twist ending was so unexpected. Does anyone remember if they did any other animations? I’m tryna catalog all the content that was lost when the channel went down.

oh man Mariomations, that takes me back! wasn’t it around 2023 when they got hit by the lawsuit? That clone Mario turning into a lizard thing freaked me out as a kid. bummer the whole channel is gone now, feel like we lost a piece of quirky internet history :/

For those curious, making animation in Flash back in the day was the real deal. It's basically what introduced a lot of us to animating before the big switch to HTML5. Yoshi and the Rainbow might not have been a masterpiece, but it represented a lot of passion and effort. RIP old Flash animations.

It's an interesting situation legally speaking. On the one hand, fan creations can be seen as fair use, but on the other, intellectual property rights are no joke. Mariomations probably didn't want to risk a lengthy and expensive lawsuit. Sad that it means the animation disappears, though.
