The Pursuit of 'The Perfect Shot' - Lost Film

Deep dive into 'The Perfect Shot', a supposedly revolutionary film lost after its screening in a small French cinema in the 70s. The director, Jean-Luc Marceaux, was known for his unorthatic storytelling & camera work.

Here's what we know: - Premiered once in October 1974. - Described as an existential journey melding reality with the avant-garde. - Employed a special camera technique that's unreproducible.

Efforts to find the original reels have thus far been futile. Jean-Luc's estate has no records, and attendees recall scenes vividly but inconsistently. This work of art potentially represented a pivot in film but is at risk of fading into obscurity. If anyone has contacts in the French indie cinema circle from that era or has any leads, let's collaborate on this cinematic enigma.

Would anybody be interested if I started a crowdfunding campaign to make a documentary about this search? It has all the right elements: mystery, art, a forgotten genius. Could bring attention to the film and funding might help pry loose some new leads. Let's bring 'The Perfect Shot' back from the abyss!

Never heard of this film before, but now I'm hooked on finding out more. Anything that gets called 'revolutionary' piques my interest. I’ve got a friend doing a film studies PhD, maybe he has access to resources we don't. I’ll reach out and report back if I find something.

There's a theory that 'The Perfect Shot' was so unconventional that the critical backlash from traditionalists of the time led to its suppression. Marceaux's genius scared them; shattering cinematic norms was not welcomed. Like many visionaries, perhaps recognized only in hindsight? Could it be that the film was too pure for its own good? Avant-garde movements often have these tales of suppression.

Avant-garde? More like avant-garbage LOL. People making a fuss over some ancient artsy film that probably sucked. Bet it’s lost cuz no one wanted to see it twice.

I'm compiling a database of lost films and this one is top of my list. The theatre you mentioned, was it 'Cinema de la Plage'? If we could track down former workers or anyone involved with the screening, might lead us somewhere. Records or not, there are always stories. Let's not let 'The Perfect Shot' be just another 'Lost Film' plaque on our wall.

Jean-Luc Marceaux was ahead of his time! Remember reading a journal where an audience member said they felt the film spoke directly to their soul. Sounds like an immersive experience we'd totally dig today. Like VR but through pure cinema. Anyone tried interviewing the cinema owners/staff from that era?

heard whispers about this. the screening was secret, invite only. they say the film didn’t just disappear, it was hidden for a reason. some say it revealed too much, was too raw... too real. not everyone wants it found.

This is crazy fascinating! I've read about 'The Perfect Shot' in a obscure film mag, article said the camera technique involved a customized lens, handcrafted & couldn't be replicated b/c the creator passed away without any documentation. Maybe there's a prototype of that lens somewhere? Would kill to see a film that's so innovatively shot.
