Why all the fuss about lost media anyway?

Guys, seriously why all the fuss about things that got lost? Maybe they got lost for a reason, ya know? Like maybe they were so bad, the universe just swallowed 'em up. Ever think that maybe some things are meant to stay gone? lol

Sometimes things getting lost can be suspicious, ever think of that? like there’s a reason someone doesn’t want it found... adds to the mystery n makes the hunt for it even more exciting tbh

Lol, mate, it's not about whether it's bad or not. It's about remembering and experiencing things that are a part of history. Some of us grew up on shows, games or songs that isn't around anymore. So finding it again is like reconnecting with a piece of our childhood.

While I see where you're coming from, it's crucial to consider the digital heritage aspect. As a digital archivist, I can assure you that lost media can sometimes include culturally significant pieces. Once found, these can be preserved and studied for future generations. And hey, sometimes it’s just about bringing closure to an incomplete collection or solving a years-long mystery.

Gotta disagree with ya. Finding lost media can be like treasure hunting, you know? Many of us like the thrill of the chase, and when you find something that's been lost for decades, it's a rush like no other. Sometimes it's rare music, a pilot that never aired, or even a game that was never released. Plus, bad or not, everything has its audience.

haha. right? if it's lost, leave it. probs just old cartoons with bad animation or some cringey movie from the 80s. let it stay lost, we got enough memes from the stuff we do have 😂

I think you're missing the point here a bit. Lost media can have historical, artistic, or educational value that transcends subjective opinions about its quality. Lost works can influence or reflect social norms, artistic movements, or the technological capabilities at the time of their creation. Think lost episodes of Doctor Who or original cuts of films that got changed after initial test screenings. Finding them helps us complete the puzzle of media history, just like finding a rare piece of art would. Not to mention, sometimes something gets lost not 'cause it's bad, but because of poor archiving, accidents, or just plain neglect.

It’s not necessarily about the content being good or bad, it’s about preserving history. Think about all the lost films from the early 20th century; those are pieces of our cultural heritage we can't recover. It's super important for understanding our past! I get the universe joke but imagine if we had that mindset for everything old and forgotten?
