FOUND: Old recording of 'The Midnight Show'!!!

Not sure if this is the place, but I just found an old recording of 'The Midnight Show' from 1974 on reel-to-reel in my grandpa's basement. It's a cult TV program that was thought to be completely lost!! No idea how to transfer this to digital but wanted to share the news!!

Sure, and I found the original cut of Metropolis under my bed last week lol. But hey, if it's real, I guess you're the new king of lost media. Hope you don't get haunted by the ghost of vintage TV shows.

That's the kinda stuff that makes digging through the old fam basement worth it, always incredible to find somethin' like that. Gotta wonder how many lost shows are just sittin' in people's homes collecting dust.

You have no idea how important this is! Every piece of lost media recovered is a miracle. Keep that tape safe from heat, humidity, and magnetic fields. Reach out to organizations like the Library of Congress or local universities that might invest in preserving and digitizing it properly; some of them have funds exactly for this kind of thing. It's critical to get it into a format that can be backed up and shared before the physical medium deteriorates any further. Don't let it be lost again!

That's so cool! I don't know much about old tech but man what a discovery! Maybe check out some online forums for media preservation, they could have some tips on transfer or could point you to professionals that can do it for you. Such a cool piece of history, hope it finds its way online!

The Midnight Show?! You're kidding! That's like finding a unicorn. There's probably a whole bunch of us here who thought we'd never see the day. Whatever you do next, please consider the historical importance of your discovery. Reach out to an archive or even the original broadcasting company if they're still around. They might have the resources to digitize it properly and preserve it, and who knows, maybe you could get recognition – or some cash – for your grandpa's collection?

First off, congrats on the find. Now, transferring reel-to-reel can be done DIY if you're tech-savvy, but I wouldn't recommend it given the rarity of what you have. There's specialized equipment involved like a reel-to-reel player (obviously) and a high-quality audio interface to capture the audio without loss. Plus, you'll need some hands-on audio restoration work to manage the inevitable age-related quality issues. Best to look for a pro-audio restorer or archives with the necessary setup. Keep us updated; this is pretty big news!

holy heck, that's amazing!! 🤯 the midnight show was way before my time, but i've read tons about its impact on underground media. you've basically got a treasure there, dude! transferring from reel to reel is tricky business but there might be local audio shops or uni media departments willing to help for the historic value alone. make sure to keep it safe in the meantime, those tapes are fragile!
