Back in '98 HBO aired a pilot for a potential series called 'Poodle Springs' based on Raymond Chandler's work, but the show wasn't picked up. Only a few film buffs in a forum ever claimed to have seen it and all we got are a couple of film stills. There was never a home media release. Tape trading circles don't have it (trust me, I've asked around). Anyone got leads on this? Potentially lost gold here.

As a collector of lost media, I can tell you 'Poodle Springs' is notoriously elusive. It's generally believed that few copies ever made it out of the HBO vault, and none seem to have made it online or into the hands of collectors. Tracking down lost media takes patience and a bit of luck. That being said, have you tried reaching out to film restoration communities? Sometimes they have unexpected leads or even private archives.

Remember someone talking about this at a film convention a while back. Said something about an HBO exec having a copy but that's all I got. Might be worth looking into industry contacts, someone's gotta have a copy gathering dust somewhere.

The 'Poodle Springs' pilot is one of those white whales for HBO fans. Unfortunately, there's truth to it being hard to find. HBO isn't keen on releasing these one-off pilots, assuming they even still have the original prints. My advice? Keep an eye on former staff social media, some of these guys like to share tidbits from the past. Long shot, but worth a try.
