Hey y'all, check this out. I've just come across an old VHS at my grandpa's attic with a handwritten label 'Widget Pilot NOT FOR AIR'. After some digging, found out it was a scrapped project from '95. The show was kinda like a mix of live-action and puppetry, think along the lines of Fraggle Rock, but with a sci-fi twist. Widget was this alien teaching kids about friendship n stuff, but it had this strangely dark undertone not really suited for kids. Anybody else heard about this or have any more deets?

Widget might be a rare find in the world of puppetry. The 90s was when a lot of experimental shows were popping up, before CG took over. It’s a time capsule piece; artists and show creators were trying new things that didn’t always sit well with broad audiences. Would be great if you could capture and upload a video file somewhere. Serious puppetry fans here would dissect it in a heartbeat.

This is my first post on this subreddit, and wow, what a way to start! I had no idea there were shows like Widget hidden out there. It's wild how one day you think you know all the shows from your childhood, and the next, you find out about a dark puppet show teaching life lessons. If you digitize the tape, would you consider sharing it with the community here?

Eh, probably just some low-budget, never-made-it-out-of-the-garage pilot. Lots of those were floating around in the 90s. Puppet stuff that tried to be edgy but just ended up on someone's dusty attic shelf. Pics or it didn't happen, am I right?

I'm pretty well-versed in lost media from the '90s and 'The Wondrous World of Widget' is not something I've come across. The fact that it's a mix of puppetry and live-action from that era makes it quite a unique find. The darker tone might have been what axed it—producers back then were really cautious about anything that might scare the kids. Would love to see any snippets if you're up for sharing, it's gold for archivists!
