Stumbled upon The Animal Show

Hey, was just flicking channels last night and there it was - a Jim Henson TV show I never knew existed. Apparently called The Animal Show. It's talk show format but with animals!! How cool is that?! Characters like Stinky the Skunk and Jake the Polar Bear talk about animal facts with real-life guest appearances. Anyone else watching this? 😂

Fun trivia: did you know Tish Katsufrakis from 'The Weekenders' does the voice for Stinky? Also, the show was aired from 1994 to 1998 and spanned five seasons.

The Animal Show is a mixed bag for me - while I appreciate the educational aspects of the show, I feel like the puppetry was not up to Henson's usual standard. The designs of Stinky and Jake are somewhat generic and their performances are noticeably more stiff when compared to characters from Sesame Street or The Muppets. Overall, an interesting experiment, but not Henson's strongest work.

I've recently started checking this out too. The fun part is definitely the real animals showing up. Keeps the educational aspect alive for the kids.

Oh perfect!! I'm always looking for shows that educate while entertaining. This one seems fun. Added to the kids' watch list. 🐾

Lol, Jim Henson must have run outta ideas if he came up with a skunk-polar bear talk show. Wish him all the best tho 😂

Glad you stumbled upon The Animal Show! It's one of Jim Henson's lesser-known works. It was originally intended to educate children about animals and nature. Lots of random facts presented in a fun, engaging manner. The combo of puppet cast with real animals was unique and that's what makes the show really stand out for me.
