Hey, heard this wicked dub in a mix other day. The DJ dropped it in around the 23 minute mark but couldn't id it. Lyrics something like ‘aint no sunshine in the shadow’s glare’, got some real eerie vibes with a heartbeat like bassline. Any leads?

A gentle pointer my dear, posting a recording or a link to the mix would be much more helpful than just describing it. Could be anybody, those lyrics are often used in songs. You'll learn, the sunshine and the shadow's glare, they're two sides of the same coin. All the best on your quest for the perfect dub.

I did some googling. No exact hits, but could it be a dubstep remix of an old reggae track? Some of these producers really obscure the originals. Good luck with your search, hope you find it!
P.S. If you can remember any more lyrics, post 'em. Could help narrow the search.

Been there, there's nothing more agonizing than hearing a killer dub in a mix and not knowing who it's by! I can't give you an exact ID but 'aint no sunshine in the shadow's glare' lyrics sound like something Earthquake Studio might have penned. They have a knack for poignant and often cryptic lyrics. Although, the 'heartbeat' bassline is a very common element in dub productions, it will be difficult to trace back to one specific tune. If you have a snippet or can provide the DJ's set it could be very helpful for others to assist you.

Based on your description, it sounds like it could be something from the 90s UK Dub scene. The 'heartbeat' bassline is a popular characteristic of artists like Jah Shaka, Iration Steppas, or Aba Shanti. The lyric 'aint no sunshine in the shadow's glare' is pretty unique, doesn't ring any bell though. If you can hum the bassline or give more elements of the track, it might help the identification process.
