There's legend in the Sailor Moon fandom of an episode where the characters cross dimensions and end up in 'our world' on a quest to find a lost Silver Crystal. It was supposed to offer a meta-commentary on the influence of anime in Western culture but was never aired due to concerns over breaking the fourth wall too much. Some fans insist they've seen it. The search continues...

Don't listen to the doubters. I'm convinced the episode is out there. There's too much smoke for there not to be a fire. I've even heard there was a disagreement between creators and the network which led to it being suppressed. Keep the faith, the truth is out there!

I wish this was real, would've been a blast to watch! I mean, sure, breaking the fourth wall was a concern back then, but shows do it all the time now. Maybe it's time to start a petition for a reboot where they do come to our world! #SailorMoonInRealLife

I've been collecting Sailor Moon memorabilia for years and collaborate with other archivists. To my knowledge, no such episode has ever been produced by Toei Animation. It might be a case of a collective false memory among fans, or a conflation with doujinshi or fanfiction content. However, anomalies do happen in production and distribution, so it's never completely off the table.
