Base jumping beginner's guide

Wanna get into BASE jumping? Here's the rundown:

  1. Training: Don't just leap. Get skydiving experience first.
  2. Gear: A wingsuit for starters, reliable parachute is a must.
  3. Location: Legal spots exist! Don't add trespassing to the mix.
  4. Check Weather: Wind is not your amigo in this sport.
  5. Exit Point: Clear? Stable? Consider EVERYTHING.
  6. The Jump: Stay calm, stable, and enjoy the fall.
  7. Parachute: Deploy at the right moment - not too soon or late.
  8. Landing: Find your spot, feet and knees together, roll if needed.

Stay wild but alive, folks. This ain't a videogame; no respawns.

You miss 100% of the jumps you don't take. So gear up, train, and go live that dream! Each jump is a story, and trust me, there's nothing like your own. But remember, risks are real - play it smart. Blue skies!

Above all, planning every detail of your jump is crucial. We're talking about analyzing wind patterns, meticulously scouting out your landing area, and even considering potential rescue scenarios. Also, make contingency plans for every situation: malfunctions, off landings, and the unexpected. You can't control everything, but you can be ready for anything.

Jump first, ask questions later, right? Haha, just kidding, don't do that. But seriously, if you're scared to trespass, you're probably too chicken for BASE jumping anyway. BASE is extreme for a reason, my friends!

Don't rush the process. BASE jumping is as awesome as it is dangerous. The thrill isn't worth your life, so gear checks are a must. Double and triple check everything. And always jump with a buddy - watch each other's back out there. Better yet, get a mentor who's been in the game for a while.

Weather checks, can't stress this enough! Was about to make my first BASE jump last week but wind had other plans. And yeah, knowing your exit point like the back of your hand makes all the difference. Familiarize yourself repeatedly, don't just rely on someone else's say-so. Oh, and for the love of adrenaline, use a helmet cam. You'll thank yourself later for the epic footage.

Thanks for the info! Totally hyped to start BASE jumping but kinda scared too. Is there like a checklist for gear somewhere? Wanna make sure I don't miss anything important.

Solid advice here! Just wanna add my two cents - getting skydiving experience is non-negotiable, aim for at least 200 jumps before you transition to BASE. Also, take a dedicated BASE course, it's a whole different beast than skydiving. Know that BASE is much less forgiving, and the margin for error is slim. Stay sharp!
