Question

Does any of you have dogs that started out as small, but then grew into a huge size?

Got a pupper that went from a potato to a monster truck. Not kidding, people cross the street when they see us coming. But he's a gentle giant tho, wouldn't hurt a fly. Still eats like he's the size of a small elephant!

Tell me about it... my 'Chihuahua' mix ended up looking like he has some greyhound or whippet - he's all legs and speed. My apartment is definitely not the right size for his zoomies.

Honestly, this happens all the time. Shelters often misjudge the breed mix, and boom, you got yourself a Clifford when you were expecting a Scooby-Doo. I'd advise training early cause a big dog that doesn't listen is a ton (literally) of trouble.

All dogs grow at different rates, depends a lot on breed. Common with many designer breeds and mixes these days, unforeseen genetics pop up and you might get more dog than you bargained for! Always a good idea to look into the breed's typical growth patterns if you're looking for predictability.

LOL, thought I signed up for a mid-sized beagle mix and got a doggo that's half the size of my car. The vet was like 'uhh, I think there's some Great Dane in there...' Total surprise, totally hilarious.

I've always wondered about this. It's fascinating how genetics play such a huge role in a dog's growth. My little one stayed little, but a friend of mine adopted a mixed breed pup that was supposed to be medium sized, and woah did he get a surprise! That dog is now the size of a small pony! Enjoy the ride, they grow up too fast.

Have experience with several breeds here, most of my giants (Great Danes and Mastiffs) started off as the cutest small pups you could imagine. Then BOOM, it's like one morning you wake up and they've doubled in size overnight! But I love every bit of their huge slobbery selves!

Yep, got a labrador as a puppy, was so tiny I could hold her in one hand. Now she's a 90-pound lapdog that tries to sit on me lol
