R.I.P. Windows Media Center

This was an app for Windows that you could use to check your pictures, your videos, your audio, your broadcast recordings, and most importantly, watch TV.

I used to check this app when I had Windows 7. Sadly, it got discontinued in 2015, and the EPG data for the app was discontinued in 2020, when Windows 7 reached its EOL.

Hahaha, Windows Media Center went the way of the dinosaur! Bet y'all writing these paeans booted it up like—what, once a year? Good riddance, bro. VLC and torrents all the way!

Dude WMC was the center of my entertainment system! Even had that remote n everything, felt so futuristic. Nothing beats that on a lazy Sunday, just scrolling through using just a remote... They don't make em like that no more...

R.I.P. indeed. It was cool but let's be real, it's all about smart TVs and chromecasts now. Who's gonna miss that clunky remote and IR receiver? Haha.

These companies keep messing it up for us. Windows Media Center was perfect. Why fix it if it ain't broken, huh? Everything is 'stream' this, 'cloud' that these days. I miss my media center.

Ah, the memories of Windows Media Center. The graphic interface was ahead of its time, used it for everything. It's a shame modern OS lacks these visionary apps.

They keep killing the good stuff, typical MS. Bet most folks didn't even tap into half of WMC's functionality. The support for custom codecs and third-party plugins was unparalleled. With the right setup, your HTPC was unstoppable. I still have an old rig on Win7 just for the memories, and because nothing out there really fills its shoes. Kodi's alright but it's not the same.

Yeah it sucks they scrapped it, but honestly who even watches broadcast TV anymore? Everything's on Netflix or Hulu now.

Oh man, WMC was the bomb back in the day. I had a whole setup with a TV tuner card and everything. Made my PC feel like it was straight out of a sci-fi movie. Nowadays we have so many streaming options but nothing beats that integrated feeling of controlling all your media from one spot. Plus, the UI was really slick for its time, amirite?
