Homemade Crystal Pepsi Attempt

For everyone pining for the clear cola glory that was Crystal Pepsi - I've got a DIY recipe that might ease the pain. Check it:

  • Carbonated water (SodaStream or any brand)
  • Pure Cane Sugar (3 tablespoons per liter)
  • Caffeine tablets (crushed, 1/2 tablet per liter)
  • Citric acid (1/4 teaspoon per liter)
  • Kola nut extract (5ml per liter)

Mix the sugar, caffeine, citric acid, kola nut extract, and a cup of water in a saucepan. Heat until everything's dissolved. Cool it down, mix into your carbonated water, and you've got a homemade Crystal Pepsi tribute. It's not perfect, but it's a decent fix. Cheers, fellow soda outliers!

Cool recipe! I appreciate the creativity here. Has anyone else ran into issues getting the sugar to fully dissolve? Or any pro tips on mixing the concoction without losing carbonation?

Tried it with a hint of vanilla extract and it slapped! Gave it an almost cream soda vibe but still maintained that clear cola mystique. Might not be for purists looking for that exact Crystal Pepsi experience but if you're in for a twist, 10/10 would recommend.

I'm tempted to try this out but 3 tablespoons of sugar seems like a lot, doesn't it? Has anyone tried it with less sugar or even a sugar substitute? I'm watching my sweet intake but still wanna enjoy some homemade nostalgia juice.

Crystal Pepsi? Why not just enjoy the colored stuff like a normal person, lol. This is like those folks who pay extra for 'artisanal' ice.

This is an interesting experiment! But watch out with those caffeine tablets, the dosage can vary widely. Also, pure cane sugar has a specific profile - it might even matter what brand you use. Different brands could affect the final taste. Is there a particular carbonated water you'd recommend? The mineral content in water can really change things up!

I've seen a lot of these DIY soda recipes and most fall flat (pun intended). Crystal Pepsi had a distinct taste that's not just about being a clear cola. The kola nut extract is a nice touch, but you're missing the essence of the '90s nostalgia. That being said, kudos for the effort and for sharing with fellow fans.

OMG, Crystal Pepsi? That takes me back! 😍 I never thought of making it at home. Does the kola nut extract really give that authentic cola flavor or is it more for the look? Gotta track down some of these ingredients and try it asap.

hey there, just tried your recipe and the taste is kinda close to the OG Crystal Pepsi! My trick is to chill the carbonated water before mixing so that the fizz stays strong. Anyone else got tweaks to make it even more like the real deal?
