This small chain was once the king of roast beef in the whole world. It operated from 1968 to 1970 and sold roast beef and ham, as the restaurant name says.
I used to go here as a kid. I think one of their locations became an Arby's. And they even tried to sue Arby's in court!

I've covered a lot of forgotten fast food chains on my blog, but KFR&B is a tricky one. Sparse info out there, but apparently they did have a cult following for the short time they were around. It wasn't just their menu, but the style of service too—more personal, more of a family-diner vibe. This was before everything got super standardized. Def would've done a taste test if I could've!

Oh, the lawsuit against Arby's is pretty interesting. It wasn't uncommon for chains to battle it out in court during those days. From what I've read, KFR&B alleged that Arby's was infringing on some of their cooking techniques, but spoiler alert: they didn't win. Arby's is still around and KFR&B is just a memory.

Nice, KFR&B is a piece of retail archaeology. They popped up in the golden age of fast food, just as everyone was trying to figure out their angle. Their branding was very of that era too—down-home and kitschy. There’s actually some old marketing material floating around the internet if you wanna see what they looked like. Very Americana!

Oh wow Kentucky Roast Beef and Ham? That takes me back! If memory serves, they had this special sauce for their roast beef that was out of this world. Too bad they didn’t last long tho, bet they would've given current chains a run for their money today!

Man, I barely remember KFR&B but I think my parents mentioned them a few times. They were like a blip on the map before Arby's took over the roast beef game. Not surprised to hear about the lawsuit, given how crazy the fast food industry was back then. Patenting sandwich tech and all that jazz haha!
